The trials and tribulations of a middle aged woman and her furry feline family

Adventures of a Crazy Cat Lady Helen Chapman Mariah Noel 9781456353964 Books

I've followed and even friended Helen Chapman online, but before this book, I'd never bought a book she'd written. I splurged. I'm glad I splurged. Helen GETS cats.

By "gets", I mean she both understands them AND that she takes in fosters cats until they have a forever home. In my opinion what she does is s bloody difficult. Every take-in I ever did, every rescue I enacted (with one exception where I kept only one of six orphaned feral kittens), ended up in my acquiring a cat, a mutt cat. Each time that happned I was literally on the verge of purchasing a purebred cat I'd lusted after. EACH TIME that was an either or decision. I fell for the "need" not the pedigree, every time.

Helen's accounts reveal to us the personalities of her fosters and what they brought to her life. It illustrates how she came to be "crazy" and why "crazy" is often a good thing to be, in my opinion..

Rescue cats aren't free, though you pay less for a rescue than a pedigree, even if it's only "pet quality" not "show quality" pedigree cat.. A fee is charged by the adopting agency for vet services (a small fee, as the services are largely donated and it's supplies and medications that are financed by those fees) for some of the food consumed by these balls of love an claws and also for microchipping and necessary shots. You're going to pay that for a take-in, whether it comes to your door or you go to a shelter.

What Helen GETS and tells you about is what it is that makes people foster throwaways. She tells you that in passing, as she relates the story of her time with some of those fosters she took in and waited to find homes for, as well as those she took in who successfully evaded "regifting" as it were. It takes a flexible and infinite heart to foster and Helen shows you what turned her heart into the infinite well that it is. If nothing else, it may prepare you for adopting another or for adopting your first.

As with children, wouldn't it be lovely if every animal born to be in a relationship with human beings, got their forever human and home, not hell and the short ugly life of a discard?

I love this book!! So fun and on point!! You go girl!
Well written and full of unexpected, dry humor. Helen's not "crazy". She's a gift who was sent to care for God's furry critters needing love and a home. I'm sure she got as much as she gave...and still gives.
if you are a cat person, have cats of your own you will love this book!.the stories are true adventuress of being a human owned by a cat lol.
Loved the cover, glad it was free. I really tried to like it but it was very disjointed. Beginning around chapter 10, pages were missing the incompleteness was annoying to say the least. Definitely needs to be reformatted.
I love this book and was crying (laughing) by the end. It reminds me so much of the on goings of my life especially chapter 18. From one cat lady this book is great. There is always a laugh on the next page.
About to start the one after it - Talk to the Paw...should be another good one, short one but a good one.
As a confirmed "crazy cat lady" myself, I can relate to just about every one of these true stories that make you smile and think, "Oh, my cat does that too!"

The language was like listening to your neighbor talk about her cat's latest adorable antic. No scientific explanations or speculations were included to interrupt the warm fuzzies you feel with each page. Another pass by a proofreader could have been used, but does not distract from the pleasure.

Just reading one of these three-to-four-page stories will make you laugh and warm your heart. All in all, this is a book I'm glad I bought and one I'll pick up and read again and again.
